Abstract Background: Barrett‘s esophagus is defined as the replacement of squamous esophageal epithelium by intestinal metaplasia in the distal esophagus. Aim of the work: To review epidemiology, complications, diagnosis and management of Barrett‘s esophagus. Method: Review Barrett‘s esophagus. Results: Barrett‘s esophagus increases the risk of esophageal cancer approximately 10 times and esophageal adenocarcinoma approximately 30 times compared with the general population. Conclusions: Barrett‘s esophagus is defined as the replacement of squamous esophageal epithelium by intestinal metaplasia in the distal esophagus.
