Abstract Researchers recognized that oral reading is one of the most neglected language skills. They began to analyze oral reading miscues and attempted to develop this skill by using some remedial programs. One of the problems of teaching English as a foreign language in Egypt is low achievement of oral reading in all learning stages. For many students, reading aloud is a difficult task. The researcher found that English Department students at Damietta Faculty of Education make different kinds of miscues as they read aloud. So, the researcher developed a program with the purpose of developing oral reading skill and remedying its miscues. The study also examined the effectiveness of the program in remedying oral reading miscues. The researcher hypothesized that analyzing oral reading miscues would result in no significant differences in the frequencies of certain categories of reading miscues. Again, it was hypothesized that implementing the program to the subjects would result in no significant differences between their mean scores in the total test on the pre-test and their mean scores on the post-test. It was also hypothesized that there would be no significant differences between the mean scores of the subjects in oral reading accuracy on the pre-test and their mean scores on the pos-test. |
