Abstract The present work describes the synthesis of several new S/N heterocyclic azo dyes and their applications as azo disperse dyes for dyeing polyester fibers. These thiazole, thiazolidine and thiophene azo dyes provide bright and strong shades that range from red, through blue, to green, and therefore complement the yellow/orange colors of the nitrogen heterocyclic azo dyes in providing a complete coverage of the entire shade gamut. The color parameters of the dyed polyester fibers were measured using the GretagMacbeth CE 7000a spectrophotometer. The application of the dyes on polyester fibers has shown that such dyes have good affinity to polyester fibers and good fastness properties according to the CIE and the international grey scale systems. A color matching study for the synthesized azo disperse dyes of known structures and satisfied fastness properties with the market commercial dyes within the same color range produced by international manufacturers was performed. On the other hand, formulation of the color of market dyes in different color direction from the synthesized azo disperse dyes applied on polyester fibers under the same dyeing conditions to suggest the proposed matched recipe based upon less ∆E value and high fastness properties, whereas in industrial application, other factors should be respected such as quantities available and cost price. It is obvious that the purpose of the color matching study is to obtain the desired color when the local market could not save the suitable dyes for such a color, whereas the economic feasibility study for it will be considered in the future. |
