Abstract

This study deals with the systematic paleontology of the benthonic and planktonic foraminifera as well as the megafossils, biostratigraphy, paleoecology and finally a discussion of the geological history of the area. The main observations and results achieved throughout this study are summarized as follows : I. The Triassic - Cretaceous succession in G. Arif El Naqa area is divided into the following lithostratigraphic, arranged from top to base as follows : 1- Abu Zenima Chalk Member (Maastrichtian) attains a thickness of 97 m and is made up of white, soft chalk, becomes green to white at the top. 2- Markha Chalk Member (Campanian) attains about 148 m in thickness and is mainly composed of white chalk, sandy to phosphatic in some parts and with flint band and concretions.
