Abstract The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1- Lithostratigraphicall, the late Cretaceous - Early Tertiary succession in the studied area could be subdivided into the following rock units arranged from the top to base as follows : - Thebes Formation (Early Eocene) - Esna Shale (Late Masstrichtian - Early Eocene) - Suder Chalk (Campanian - Maastrichtian) - Matulla Formation Coniacian - Santonian). II - The systematic paleontology has led to the recognition of 431 foraminiferal species and varieties, in which 160 are planktonic forms belonging to 37 genera, 10 subfamilies, 11 families, 6 superfamilies and one suborder. |
