Abstract The Nile Delta is generally characterized at the surface by the cultivated deposits, sabcha and undivided Quaternary Nile Valley sediments together with non - marine sediments away from the solid deposits. The deep wells in the Nile Delta region show that the Miocene rocks, are represented by clastics, gypsum and carbonates, however, the Oligocene rocks are represented by fluviatile - lacustrine calastic sediments. Basaltic and doleritic bodies (intrusions) of Tertiary age are recorded in some wells, such as at Mit Ghmer well - 1. These wells also indicate that the greatest thickness of the sedimentary cover is recorded to the northern part of the delta, as few wells reached basement surface in the southern part. |
