Abstract The sedimentary succession exposed around Bir Safra in Southeastern Sinai is about 408 m in thickness and includes rocks ranging in age from pre - cenomanian to post - Eocene. Aerial photographs and topographic maps are used to construct a detailed geological map of the area. A composite section is compiled to define the whole stratigraphic succession in the area. Field work included surveying the different rock units, studying the sedimentary structures, sampling and collecting macrofossils. On the bases of the lithological composition, sedimentray structures, fossil contents and appearance in the landscape, the studied Cenomanian - Eocene succession( 243m) is classified here into 6 formal units on the formation status. |
