Abstract The work presented in this thesis describes the preparation, characterization and performance studies of heterojunctions formed from n-type CdS and the mixture of CdS and ZnS thin films as a window on silicon p-type as a base. The study was carried out mainly to investigate the electrical and optical properties of these films. Most of the electrical properties and efficiency are controlled through proper choice of the Zn content x of the (Znx - cd1 -x) S/Si, growth method, substrate temperature Tsb and annealing condition. Chapter(1) gives a general introduction to solar cell categories and requirements for heterojunction cells. Chapter (2) deals with the qualitative discussion and mathematical calculations of the n-(Znx-Cd1_x)S/Si heterojunction solar cell. Experimental techniques involving equipment employed for preparation and characterization of the (Znx-Cd1_x)S/Si heterojunction cells are described in detail in chapter(3). The electrical properties of the cell are expressed in terms of I-V characteristics as a function of Zn constant X and annealing treatment in H2s. |
