The accurate evaluation of the domestic currency is one of the most important aims of the process of foreign exchange policy in developing countries , and then the subject of this study aims at evaluating the equilibrium exchange rate of the Egyptian pound to identify the deviation degree of the Egyptian pound away from its equilibrium exchange rate . This is done through recognizing and identifying the economic variables that the researcher believes they are important in specifying the equilibrium Egyptian pound exchange rate compared to the U.S dollar . The comparison between real and equilibrium exchange rate resulted in the following imbalance: during the period (1990 – 1994) the Egyptian pound was under valued (12.7%), While during the period (1995 – 1999) the Egyptian pound was overvalued (5.71%) .It reached its equilibrium exchange rate during (2000 – 2002) the Egyptian pound in (2003) was undervalued (17.41 %). The aspects of imbalance require certain amount of equilibrium in managing exchange rate .This is done through police program to over come the real reasons behind the deviation of the exchange rate away from its equilibrium level . These comprehensive policies should exceed the short term solutions to treat the essences of the problem and should also cover various economic policies.
