Abstract
It is now mandatory to test for the teratogerilcity of drugs in animals prior to their approval
— Azathioprine is used in pregnant women as immunosupprissive agent in tissues arid organs transplantation. used also in rheumatoid arthritis, penphigus ulcerative colitis and chronic hepatitis.
— Azathioprine leads to teratogenicity on some organs arid tissues of the body but no investigations had been studied on its teratogenical effect on oral tissues.
- Twenty adults albino F emal rats weighting 180-200 gm are used in our study arid were devided into two groups Cl) Treated group :
Fifteen femal albino rats were used and were given azathioprine in a daily oral dose 0.6 mg/daily for each rat for two weeks bef or pregnancy and during all pregnancy period.
C2) Control group S
Five female albino rats were used and were not. given any drugs after delivery the offsprings were examined for gross malformation then animal sacri— fled at 35 after birth to obtain the specimens gingiva tongue, p.rizdcnt.ai Ligament. and aiweelar bone were dissected carfully and processed routinely for embedded parafin section and stained with Haematoxylin and eosin.
