Abstract
In the present work 4 samples of subjects were screened for P-thalassemia carriers : 1) A group of 1000 soldiers collected in Cairo Camp1991. Their ages distribution were 19 years (37) 20. years (197),21 years (284) , 22 years (381) , 23 years (80) 24 years (17), 2S years (3) ; 959 of them (96%) were Muslim and the remaining 41 (4%) were christians .51 soldiers (5%) reported consanguinity among their parents. 2) A group of 320 soldiers collected in the same camp during 1992 Subjects in this group were selected for governorate not represented in the previous year . their age distribution was . 19 years (13) , 20 years (69) 21 years (63) , 22 years (113) 9 23 years (41) , 24 years (18 ) , 25 years (2) , 26 years (1) , 311 of them (97 %) were Muslim and the remaining 9 (3%) were christians. 61 soldiers or 1% reported consanguinity among thier parents.
