Abstract

Peptic activity has long been recognised as an essential factor in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcer and related diseases, but only recently it has became clear that this activity is derived from a remerkable diversity of enzymes, all of which belong to the aspartic proteinase family of enzymes. I Acid medium is required to pepsin activity, and both fe pepsin and acid are involved in the pathogenesis of peptic Acid relation to ulcer development was established, but know many studies were done to find pepsinogen relation to ulcer development. The aim of this work to assess the relation between serum pepsinogen I&II levels and the different gastrO-duodenal lesions and to find if these enzymes are considered as a subclinical markar of increased risk for duodenal and gastric ulcers. In this study, sixty patients were selected from in and out patient clinic in Mansoura University Hospital, where they were submitted to thorough history, clinical examination and full investigation upper endoscopy was done to define the present lesion, three biopsies were taken from.
