Abstract The aim of this work was to estimate the level of plasma ANF in patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis with and without liver cirrhosis. ascites. bleeding oesophageal varices (both during the bleeding attack and after the bleeding was controlled) as well as-oatients with bilharzial corpulmonale with and without heart failure. The study was performed on 45 patients classified into (D groups and 9 healthy subjects matched for age and sex who served as a control group. All patients and control were subjected to ruli clinical examination. laboratory investigations. E.C.G., X- ray chest and heart. abdominal ultrasonography. M. Mode and 2D-echocardiography and upper GIT endoscopy. Liver biopsy was also done. The ANF was estimated in the oeripheral venous blood by radioimmunoassav . This study showed the following: 1-Plasma ANF was significantly lower than the control in patients with bilharzial oeriportai fibrosis without and with cirrhosis and in acute bleeders. It was similar to the control in ascitic cirrhotic patients and in the group of bleeders when the bleeding was controlled. |
