Abstract
This research was carried out on 8 completely edentulous patients to verify three post extraction techniques used in determining occlusal vertical dimension by cephalometric technique as a guide. These techniques were; swallowing, tactile sense, and facial measurement techniques. This research was carried out on 8 completely edentulous patients to verify three post extraction techniques used in determining occlusal vertical dimension by cephalometric technique as a guide. These techniques were; swallowing, tactile sense, and facial measurement techniques. This study concluded that swallowing technique is the technique of choice to determine OVD while tactile sense technique may be invalid in determining OVD for most edentulous patients. Facial measurement technique is a simple convenient method for determining OVD when the swallowing technique is unavailable.
