Abstract

The first chapter, is an introduction about the sources of ionizing radiation and man­made radiation sources The pathways and transport of radionuclides in aquatic systems were outlined briefty . The environmental blehavior of radionuclides in the aquatic and marine ecosystems were discussed . In the second experimental techniques chapter description of apparatuses and studied area, sampling and samples prepartion were indicated. Methods of analysis and set­up of used systems were given. Theoretical calculations were shown. Sedimentological were mentioned. Organic matter ;and carbonate percentages were listed. In the third result and discussion chapter measurements have been carried out. The specific activities of 238U. 232Th and 40K are measured, then the radium equivalent activities (Raeq) and the absorbed dose rate in air are calculated. The specific activities of 238U, 238Pu ;and 239+240pu are measured the isotopic ratios 234U238U and 238 pu;239+240pu are determined A comparison of the specific activities of 238U is performed Also the specific activities of 89Sr and 90Sr are measured .The purposes of this study is to detect any radioactive contamination
