Abstract The target of this work is to study the role of apoptosis in normal liver and in some pathological liver lesions using histochemical and immunohistochemical methods. This study was done on liver specimens which were obtained from eighty six patients. They were arranged in four groups; control group (six specimens), chronic hepatitis C virus group (twenty specimens), liver cirrhosis group (thirty specimens) and hepatocellular carcinoma group (HCC) (thirty specimens). Apoptosis was much higher in cases of chronic hepatitis than normal and other pathological lesions (liver cirrhosis and HCC). The expression of P53 was high in cases of chronic hepatitis, low in cases of liver cirrhosis and carcinoma and minimal in control group. The expression of Bcl-2 was high in cases of liver cirrhosis and carcinoma, low in control group and minimal in cases of chronic hepatitis. |
