Abstract A measuring system has been developed to measure and analyze the sewing machine needle penetration torque (NPT) through sewing fabrics from a sewing machine; the measuring system depends on measuring the change of the electric power consumption under dynamic conditions by using measuring electric circuit and a digital oscilloscope connected to a (PC) computer. The system is capable of detecting change of sewing parameters including variation in material been sewn such as type of fabric softener, softener concentration in addition to other sewing parameters such as sewing speed, stitch density, presser bar load, needle type and needle size. Such system could be used to evaluate needle quality and fabric sewability, so that both fabric properties and sewing needle specification could be adjusted in advance to improve both sewing room production and garment quality. |
