Abstract The estimation of the power spectral density or the power spectrum of discrete time signals has been a useful tool in digital signal processing for more than 60 years. Power spectrum estimation techniques have proved essential to the creation of advanced radar, sonar, communication, speech, biomedical, and geophysical and other data processing systems. In this thesis the different spectral estimation methods will be discussed briefly. Generally these methods are divided into two major groups, namely, the parametric and the nonparametric methods. These are now considered. |
