Abstract Background: Patients with multivessel coronary artery disease are often eligible for either catheter based interventions or coronary bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft [CABG]). The recent progress in angioplasty techniques and device could result in improvement of the clinical outcome after multivessel coronary stenting. Methods: In 100 patients who presented with various ischemic syndromes divided into 2 main groups: group A treated with single vessel stenting comprised 50 patients (49 males and 1 female, mean age 5014 ± 5.8 years) and group B treated with multivessel stenting comprised 50 patients (48 males and 2 females, mean age 55.02 ± 8.46 years) Results: Angiographic and procedural successes were high and similar in both groups 100% and 98% respectively. There was no significant difference in procedural complications between both groups. There was also no difference in major acute cardiac events between both groups 2% in each group. Conclusion: Multivessel interventions using stents have similar in-hospital procedural success and major complications rate as single vessel interventions. Direct stenting technique was an independent predictor of reducing procedural and in-hospital complications. |
