Abstract Schistosoma mansoni patients frequently exhibit neutropenia which is a well recognized risk factor for the development of infection and often associated with substantial morbidity. The present study was designed to asses neutrophil apoptosis in neutropenic schistosoma mansoni patients. This stud comprised,40patients(21pure schistosomiasis, 5 HCV and 14 coinfection) beside 10 normal subjects who were taken as a control group. All cases were subjected to: 1) Accurate history taking. 2) Thorough clinical examination. 3) Abdominal ultrasonography. 4) Liver biopsy in some cases. 5) Laboratory investigations in the form of: • Parasitological investigations: •Urine and stool examination. • Rectal snip for detection of Schistosoma ova. • IHA test for Schistosomiasis • Haematological investigations:• Complete blood picture and reticulocytic count.• Bone marrow aspiration.• Biochemical investigations: • Liver function tests.• Random blood glucose level.• Serum creatinine. • Serological investigations:• Hepatitis B sAg.• Hepatitis C virus antibodies and PCR for antibody positive patients.• Liver biopsy for some patients. |
