Abstract
The theory of representation of groups includes two main directions, the first is the theory of ordinary representations, i.e. representations by matrices over the complex field : the second is the theory of modular representations, i.e., representations by matrices over a field of characteristic p not equal o. The major development of the subject of modular representation in the last 25 years is due to R. Brauer.
