Abstract

The aim of this study was to follow the effect of vernalization at 5 (R@ (BC either singly or in combination with foliar application of atonik (250, 500 and 1000 ppm) or benzyl adenine (25, 50 and 100 ppm) on growth parameters & flowering response, photosynthetic pigments, different carbohydrate fractions, different nitrogen frations, ion contents and the endogenous level of different phytohormones of both Pisum sativum (var. Master bean) and Solanum lycopersicum (var.Beto 86); in two separate experiments. All determined growth parameters decreased in response to treatment with vernalization. But vernalization in combination with the used concentrations of atonik or benzyl adenine led to a significant increase in these parameters.Vernalization treatment either alone or in combination with different concentrations of atonik or BA significantly increased chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids and consequantly total chlorophylls and total pigments. But chlorophyll a/b showed non significant effect.Generally vernalization either alone or in combination with different concentrations of atonik or BA led to a significant increase in different carbohydrate fractions, different nitrogen fractions and ion content. Vernalization led to a significant decrease in total auxins, gibberellic acid and different cytokinin fractions in the shoot of both tomato and pea. whereas ABA increased significantly by this treatment. In contrast, vernalization with all atonik or benzyl adenine concentrations led to a general progressive increase in total auxins, GA3 and different cytokinin fractions ( Zeatin, kinetin and benzyl adenine ). On the other hand ABA significantly decreased as compared with control values.
