Abstract
Introduction: This essay entails the discussion of one of the recent developments in the field of psychiatric genetics, mainly concerned with the current aspects & future perspectives in the area of psychopharmacogenetics of mood disorders as a future promising branch. Aim of the work: 1-Defining the concept of mood genetics including both classic and current genetic studies such as linkage studies, association and mutation studies. 2-Illustrating the concept of pharmacogenetics and the items included as a base for further understanding and further research in this field. 3-Elucidating current research work upon mood disorder psychopharmacogenetics including anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics and other aspects included in this field. 4-Illuminating a focus upon future perspectives related to the topic especially gene therapy. 5-Concerning ethical and legal issues concerning subject. Summary of the assay: Chapter 1 is summarizing the topic of mood disorders genetics,chapter 2 is a review the general state of pharmacogenetic studies in this area, Chapter 3 has included pharmacogenetic studies of main categories of psychotropic drugs, Chapter 4 is mainly concerned with ethical, economic and future perspectives related to the topic.
