Abstract In this retrospective study, all patients that underwent splenectomy¬for what ever cause - in Mansoura GEe, were studied for post splenectomy MVT. Among these cases from 1976 to 200 I, onl y 98 cases ,vere found to be suffering from post splenectomy MVT, such cases were classified into four groups Group I: For them Hassab’s operation was done for bleeding esophageal vances. Group 11: For them SPL& LGL was done for bleeding esophageal vances. Group Ill: For them splenectomy was done for non-bleeding esophageal varices with hypersplenism, Group IV: For them splenectomy was done for causes rather than portal hypertension. All patients were studied as regards their demographic data, pre operative pathological history and therapeutic history including age,sex,attacks of variceal bleeding varices,blood transfusion, injection sclerotherapy, and diuretic therapy,also the patients ”,ere subjected to pre and postoperative evaluation for the esophageal varices by upper GIT endoscopy, also evaluation of portal vein by Doppler ultra sonography, to find that the mean age for cases ranging from 29 to 39 years, post |
