Abstract
PRL hormone, a known diabetogenic factor and growth promoting hormone, might be speculated to contribute to such complications. However, the exact link between PRL and diabetic complications has not been fully elucidated. The aim of the present study is to explore the status of serum PRL level in patients with D.M. and try to investigate its association with diabetic complications. In this work, 80 diabetic patients were selected randomly in the Diabetes and Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic in Mansoura University Hospitals. They included 47 males and 33 females, with a mean age of 51.8 years. Type 2 constituted 60 cases, while type 1 constituted 20 cases. Who were compared to 20 cases (reference group) of matched age and sex. All cases were subjected to: complete history taking with stress on age, sex, the age of onset and duration of D.M., type of treatment received and stress on symptoms and signs of complications. The diabetics were subjected to many investigations, including: resting ECG, fundus examination, test for micro-albuminuria, serum PRL level, fasting and 2h PP blood glucose level, serum creatinine.
