Abstract lncineration as a management option for waste disposal, is used to reduce volume of municipal solid waste, to reduce the potential infectious properties ii volume of medical waste, and to reduce the potential toxicity and volume of ltdous chemical and biological waste. However, incineration has been the feet of much debates. A major aspect of the debate is the potential risk to ian health that might result from the emission of pollutants generated by the neration process. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine some tthe occupational health hazards among waste incineration workers and to ect some of waste incineration emission products. The present study was carried out upon 50 waste incineration workers osed to waste incineration emissions (44 open dump incinerator workers and c1osed incinerator workers) and 25 controls who were not exposed to waste neration emissions. (a)The exposed group: were divided into 2 groups on the basis of work site exposure: The first exposed group: comprised 44 workers engaged in open waste incineration at the open dump of the Organic Fertilizer Manufacture Plant at Mansoura city (open dump incinerator workers). They were all males, in age range of 20 to 60 years and their duration of exposure ranged from 2 to 6 years. The second exposed group: comprised 6 closed incinerator workers, working at the Gastro-Enterology Center incinerator at Mansoura city. They were all males, in age range of 20 to 60 years and their duration of exposure ranged from 2 to 6 years. |
