Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate and describe the CT & MRl findings in the soft tissue, bone cortex & bone marrow in patients with acute & chronic osteomyelitis. Thirty two patients with clinically suspected osteomyelitis were refered from the Orthopedic surgery department ”of Mansoura University hospitals. Their ages ranged from 8-50 years with a mean age 25.5 years. Patients population consisted of20 males (60%) 12 females (40%). All patients were subjected to thorough history & full clinical and local examination. Plain x-ray was the initial step in the radiological assessment. It was performed for 32 patients (12 acute osteomyelitis & 20 chronic osteomyelitis ). CT was done for 21 patients (6 patients with acute osteomyelitis & 15 patients with chronic osteomyelitis). Intravenous contrast was reserved for cases suspected to have soft tissue abscess or sinus tract in 10 patients. MRI was performed in All patients. Intravenous contrast was administered for 18 cases (8 acute & 10 chronic osteomyelitis).
