Abstract
The’ aim of this study is to find out the effect of eradication of H.P infection in patients with gastritis, duodenitis and/or duodenal ulcer, on the level of the gastric juice and plasma ascorbic . Also, to evaluate the eradication rate of a one-week triple therapy. Omeprazole 20mg bd. + Amoxicillin l gm bd. + metronidazole 500mg bd. (OAM). This study was conducted on 76 male patients and 10 male subjects as control group, the age of the patient group ranged from 25-61 years and of the control group from 28-60 years. All subjects (patients and controls) included in this study were complaining of dyspeptic symptoms, and were proved by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to have gastritis, duodenitis and/or duodenal ulcer. The patient group were proved by urease test, culture and serology to have HP infection while the control group was not proved to have HP infection. All . patients are submitted to thorough history taking, thorough clinical examination, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy through which antral biopsies were taken for rapid urease test, serological diagnosis using the ELISA test for identification of anti-HP IgG, two antral and two corpus biopsies were taken for bacteriological examination, determination of the gastric juice PH and ascorbic acid level and determination of the plasma ascorbic acid level.
