Abstract

Spiral CT A is a fast and minimally invasive technique for evaluating abdominal vasculature. CT angiography requires the rapid, volumetric acquisition provided by spiral CT scanner coupled with an accurately timed high flow periphral intravenous injection of contrast material. It is quicker and less invasive and provides less radiation exposure than conventional angiography, which is the current standard of reference for abdominal vascular.evaluations. Also, conventional angiography requires an additional contrast material injection and further radiation exposure for each additional view. An additional advantage of CT A is that, once acquired, the data can be retrospectively edited and reconfigured into any possible projection. Also, CT angiography depicts intraluminal vascular detail and perivascular abnormalities such as adenopathy or masses which can be detected on the routine spiral CT images. The advantages of CT angiography over conventional arteriography also include diminished patient morbidity, cost and physician time requirement. . Within the abdornen and pelvis, CT angiography is a higher resolution examination than MR angiography. MR angiographic studies are too long to make breath holding possible. Also, motion occuring secondary to bowel peristalsis or pulmonary ventilation can
