Abstract Mammary’ glands or breasts are a. distinguishing feature of mammals. They have evolved as milk-producing organs to provide nourishment to the offspring which are born in a relatively immature and dependent state. The act of nursing the young provides r physiological benefit to the mother by aiding in postpartum uterine to the young in transferring passive immunity .The nursing of the young is also of significance in the bonding between the mother and her offspring (Haagensen, 1986 ). Mammary dysplasia is condition caused by cyclical proliferation and involution of breast tissue producing fibrosis, epithelial hyperplasia and cyst formation (Dogliotti et aI, 1989). ” Mammary dysplasia” is also known as fibrocystic changes, fibrocystic disease, cystic mastopathy, chronic cystic disease, chronic cystic mastitis, Schirnmelbuschs disease, mazoplasia, Coopers disease, Reclus’s disease, fibroadenomatosis, and cystic mastopathy in addition to a number of other uninformative and even misleading terms. The problem is not inflammatory, as the term mastitis would imply, and it probably is not a disease in the usual sense.(Sausan et aI, 1982). |
