Abstract Variceal bleeding accounts for 30% of all upper gastrointetsinal bleeds and may prove fatal in up to 50% of the patients depending on the severity of the underlying liver disease. Endoscopic band ligation has been introduced recently and has gained popularity in the endoscopic treatment of esophageal variceal bleeding as a result of more rapid variceal eradication and fewer local complications. Motility abnormalities after endoscopic band ligation of esophageal varices are ;’arely evaluated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of endoscopic band ligation of esophageal varices on the esophageal motility This study was conducted on 40 portal hypertensive variceal patients. Another 10 healthy volunteers were included as control. The patients were divided into 2 groups: Group I: Comprised 20 cases of portal hypertensive cirrhotic patients, have esophageal varices never bled and proved endoscopical . |
