Abstract Viral hepatitis is a major public health problem throughout the world (Sherlock, 1992). Many studies reported a high prevalence of anti-HCV in patients’undergoing surgical interference (Kaplan et al., 1992). The plan of this study was to determine the clinical course in patients with hepatitis C infection in surgical emergencies and to show influence of HCV serotypes on the outcome of the disease. This study was conducted on 22 patients seropositive for HCV antibodies. Patients were selected from the Emergency Hospital ,,Mansoura University. Their age ranged between 32 and 60 years,, they were 16 males and 6 females. Patients under study were divided into:- (a) patients undergoing orthopedic surgery including 1 1 patients with polytrauma (7 males and 4 females). (b) patients undergoing general surgery including I 1 patients with exploration and/or splenectomy (9 males and 2 females). In addition a control group of 10 HCV seronegative patients undergone surgical interference (with matched age and sex) were included in the study. |
