Abstract Gall stones are the commonest biliary pathology producing many complications that affect the life of the patients. Although there are different modalities for dealing with gall stones, cholecystectomY still remains the acceptable treatment for large majority of patients with symptomatic gall stones. Beside the standard open technique of cholecystectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is rapidly evolving as therapeutic modality for treatment of gall stones.This work waS done to studY the application of this neW technique in Egypt. This study included 200 patients equallY divided into two groupS (grOUP I included 100 patients for whom laparoscopic cholecystectomy waS done), and (groUP 11, 100 patients, for whom open cholecystectomy waS done).
