Abstract

The present work was carried out on female albino aiming to find the effects of three placental noriestrogen ,progesterone & chorionic gonadotropin ~rately & the three hormones in combination) on lin response to I.V. glucose administration, and to tigate the role of Ca++ in mediating this effedt ;sing verapamil which is one of the calcium ant~go~ ~.The present work aims also to find the effect of ,al pregnancy on insulin response to glucose admf.n i,» tion,& to demonstrate the effects of estrogen,prog- ~rone & chorionic gonadotropin on glucose uptake by ~ose & muscular tissues & on lipolysis as indicated -,jlycerol release by adipose tissue. study includes the following experiments:IN VIVO EXPERIMENTS: Serum glucose & insulin levels in the fasting state and ten minutes after I.V. glucose load(lgm!kg body .:weight) were measured in the following groups: strogen-treated group: Estradiol valerianate was administered for J weeks as an initial dose of 35 rg I.M. followed by a second similar dose after 2 weeks. This resulted in significant increase in serum insulin without significant effect on serum glucose both in the fasting state & after glucose load. rogesterone-treated group: Hydroxy progesterone caproate was administered as an initial dose of 35 mg I.M. then repeated nnce weekly for 3 weeks. This resulted in significant increase in serum insulin both in the fasting state and after glucose load. The level of serum glucose is significantly increased in the fasting state but after glucose load it does not differ signifi cantly from the I control v&lue. ;Chorionic gonadotropin-treated group: CG was given I.M. in a dosage of 5 IU/IOO gm body weight, three times per week for J weeks. This resu~ lted in significant increase in serum insulin and glucose levels both in the fasting state & after glucose load. Rats receiving simultaneously estrogen, progesterone and chorionic gonadotropin for weeks.
