Abstract
Acute diarrhea is one of the major causes of childhood orbidity and mortality throughout the world. Acute infantile diarrhea is the leading cause of death among gyptian children, accounting for more than 50% of the death in ’children under two years of age. Dehyeratlon, IS the most serious complication of acut~ ,infantile diarrhea, and the basic problem in the management of dehydration is replacement of water and electrolyte deficits. This study aimed at the evaluation of the efficacy of ORS in treatment of different types and severities of dehydration due to acute infantile diarrhea in wellnourished and undernourished infants. This study comparised 80 infants with acute diarrhea and dehydration and they were divided according to their nutritional status into two ”main groups; wellnourished group and under- nourished group. After thorough history taking and clinical examination, the following investigations were done before and after oral rehydra- tion therapy: 1. Routine urine and stool examination.
