Abstract

Perinatal asphyxia is an important cause of neonatal renal failure. The injury may be severe enough to cause acute tubular necrosis. However, subclinical renal injury had also been reported. Evaluation of the degree and extent of renal damage is important for adjusting the fluid and electorlytes requirements of these infants. Our study has attempted to throw some light on renal functions in asphyxiated term-infants. their relation to neonatal outcome. For this purpose we have chosen 12 full-term asphyxiated infants admitted to the NICU of Mansoura University Hospital & 5 full-term healthy infants as a control group. They were subjected to:- 1- Full history taking. Thorough clinical examination. Laboratory evaluations including:- Urinary B2-microglobulin concentrations. Serum and urine creatinine. Serum and urine soduim.
