Abstract This study comprised 74 patients; 41 with congenital and 33 with rheumatic itral valve diseases. The congenital group consists of 10 patients with TOF, 8 patients ith ASD, 8 patients with PDA, 8 patients with VSD without congestive heart failure, and 7 patients with VSD and congestive heart failure. The rheumatic group consists of 12 patients with rheumatic mitral regurgitation and normal mean pulmonary artery pressure, 11 patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis and pulmonary hypertension, and 10 patients with rheumatic mitral regurgitation, pulmonary hypertension and congestive All patients were subjected to thorough history and clinical examination, x-ray chest, ECG, and echocardiographic examination with its three modalities; M-mode, 2¬dimensional, and Doppler. Plasma ir-ANF, serum and urinary sodium, potassium, and creatinine and creatinine clearance were obtained. The statistical analysis of the data was done using a commercially available software package SPSS/PC and an IBM compatible personal computer. |
