Abstract
There is a different standard of growth and development for each region, population, ethnic community and for each period. So, this work was planned to study growth and development of children in the first 5 years of life. The work comprised 2 partsr part 1 represented a cross-sectional study of growth parameters in one thousand normal infants and children whose age ranged-from birth to five years. The following parameters were used to assess growth : weight, height (or supine length) si tting height (or crown-rump length), subischialleg (or rumpheel) length, chest, midarm and head circumferences’o Part 2 represented a cross-sectional study of the growth and development of 189 normal individuals in the same period of life. In addition to the previous growth parameters, they were subjected to developmental assessment of 4 fields of behavior (motor, adaptive , language and personalsocial) .All the developmrental tests were compared to the work of Illingworth (1983) and done with similar equipments and in the same way 0 The data and-statistical analysis were under the control of a computerized system .
