Abstract

Occult fracture can be defined as one that is present yet not diagnosed on initial radiographs. There is typically a high level of clinical suspicion, and further imaging is frequently sought as negative plain films in the setting of acute trauma does not exclude an underlying fracture. Occult fracture evaluation has been a persistent problem that has both intrigued and confused clinicians as it is a matter of challenge for the clinical sense against the plain x-ray films. The aim of this work to evaluate the value of MRI imaging in diagnosis of occult fracture and soft tissue injury in acutely traumatised patients to solve this problem. We have reviewed the literature with regard to the pathomechanics of fractures, and the mechanical properties of bone. The different ways to diagnose fractures have been reviewed and the diagnostic modalities of occult fractures have been also reviewed. Lastly we have reviewed the role of MRI imaging in . orthopaedics. The material of this study consisted of twenty five cases with acute trauma. All cases have been subjected to clinical.
