Abstract

Trabeculectomy with its protective partial thickness scleral flap ,overlying the sclerostomy has become the most commonly per¬f formed surgical procedure for glaucoma, mainly because of a lower s.. incidence of post-operative hypotony and its related complications such as flat anterior chamber, cllio choroidal detachment, cataracts The aim of this study to find out the incidence of operative and post-operative complications of trabeculectomy, the success rate of I.O.P. control and the necessary precautions to be taken to minimize these complications as well as their management as soon as they The study included two parts : Retrospective study which included 108 (108 eyes) patients sub- jected to trabeculectomy from May, 1991 to May, 1995 . •Prospective study which included 29 patients (33 eyes) subjected to trabeculectomy from September 1995 to February, 1996~ In this study, the post-operative lO.P. control in primary glauco¬mas was 90.9% of eyes with and without medications. While 1.0.P. was uncontrolled in 9.09% of eyes inspite of the additional postop¬erative antiglaucoma medication.
