Abstract Peribulbar anaesthesia is easy to perform, has less pain i.pon injection, gives excellent globe akinesia and anaesthesia WIthout a separate facial nerve block. The globe akinesia was clinically better in the groups of more than one site injection but statistically there was no significant difference between the three groups. The group of one site injection needed a slightly longer time clinically to achieve complete lid akinesia but no statistically significant difference between the three groups were found. The group of four sites injections showed excellent results regarding globe and lid akinesia but leads to very tense lids which necessitate longer digital massage. Poor results in most cases results either from poor technique or low volumes of anaesthetic solution (less than 5 ml). A large volume of anaesthetic mixture, at least 6 cc, must be used to give good akinesia and anaesthesia. |
