Abstract This essay discuss the medical treatment of reproductive tract disorders with different hormones, including gonadotropin releasing hormone, gonadotropins, sex hormones (estrogen, progesteron, androgen), glucocorticoids and thyroxin. Hormones exert their action through specific receptors which either located on the external surface of traget cell memberane or bind with cytoplasmic receptors. Gonadotropin releasing hormone is a decapeptide hormone produced in the arcuate nucleus and secreted via tuberoinfundibular tract to the portal circulation GnRH is secreted in a rhythmic, pulsatile mode. The pulses of GnRH appear to be directly under the influence of norepinephrine facilatory and dopamine inhibitory. Furthermore serotonin, melatonin, and endorphins playa role in its production and secretion. The long, short and the ultrashort feed back loop may modify GnRH secretion. The primary effect of GnRH is the synthesis and release of LH and FSH. The effect upon the later is less pronounced. Another important effect of GnRH is to increase the cell membrane concentration of their own receptors (self priming effects). Chronic GnRH infusion leads to deactivation. |
