Abstract

Endometrial carcinoma is the most common malignancy seen in the female genital tract today. The increasing incidence has been apparently only during the last several years. The malignancy is frequently found to be preceeded by or associated with endometrial hyperplasia and both disorders seem to have the same pathogensis. In the past, endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma have been linked to postmenopausal bleeding. Nowadays the two pathologic lesions are also recognized in perimenopausal bleeding with increasing frequency, particularly in high risk women. Early diagnosis and proper management are the important two factors influencing the survival rate amoung endometrial carcinoma patients. Although fractional curettage provides a reliable method for pathologic diagnosis, yet it is liable to evoke many complication which may necessitate unanticipated vigorous treatment and even major operation. The current trend is to search for a simpler, less morbid and less expensive office biopsy technics for early detection of endometrial carcinoma and its precursors.
