Abstract
Efforts have been made to ascertain, what factors are redictive of better response to haloperidol, lithium and egretol and outcome in manic patients, as well as presence and mportance of EEG abnormalities as predictive factor in them. onflicting findings have been reported. The aim of this study was to confirm the previous studies, to find out other predictive factors for treatment response and outcome in manic patients, to study the presence of EEG abnormalities as predictive factors and its relation to affective ,illnesses, and may te for nosological and research purposes. The study comprised 64 manic patients diagnosed by rCD-iO criteria. They were classified into three groups: ~- 25 patients had received haloperidol. f” 2- 25 patients had received lithium. 3- 14 patients had received tegretol. All of them were, retrospectively, subjected to the following: 1- Thorough, full clinical psychiatric study. 2- Complete medical and physical examination and investigations if needed to exclude organic causes. 166
