Abstract Lower respiratory tract infections is not a new problem but still attracts the attention of several investigators for proper sampling and acurate diagnosis. The material of the presented studYs comprised 40 patients with lower respiratory tract infections, 32 males and 8 females with age ranging from 20 to 80 years (mean 50-2 years) . Cases were selected randomly from chest Department and out patient clinic at Mansoura University Hospital. Patients were investigated clinically and radiologically and categorised into 2 clinical groups: 11, 24normal host grouped into 3 groups: 16cases (40)% with acute pnevmonia, 6 cases (15)% with bronchiectasis and 2 cases (5%) with lung abscess, and 16 with compromised host with lower respiratory tract infection . Bronchial lavage via fiberoptic bronchoscope was examined by systematic bacteriological investigations to identify the causative microbes, Antibiogram for the significant isolates (>10 CFU /ml) were done against 12 different antibiotics. |
