Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the secretory state of cortisol and ACTH in patients with chronic hepatitis C and B and to correlate their clinical state as far as possible to their hormonal level. The studied cases were divided into two groups : * Group I : hepatitis C group. (10 cases). * Group II : hepaitits B group. (10 cases). Ten apparently normal persons were taken as a reference group. All cases were subjected to through history taking and clinical examination, including blood pressure, hair distribution, signs and symptoms suggestive of adrenocortical dysfunction and liver cell failure. •Complete blood picture were performed for all cases . •Liver function tests including serum albumin, bilirubin, SGOT and SGPT. •Serum ACTH was carried out using radioimmunoassay technique for basal (8 a.m - 10 p.m) and serum cortisol was carried out using enzyme immunoassay kit for basal (8 a.m - 10 p.m). •Also serum cortisol after ACTH injection was estimated for the hepatitis groups. 0
