Abstract
Twenty five patients with, hepatocellular failure was [selected to be the material of this study. Sixteen normal (subjects were taken to be trie the control group. Patients with hepatocellular failure were subdivided [into three subgroups according to the history, clinical (examination and biochemical studies: The first subgroup was comprised of 6 patients with acute fulminant hepatitis . • The second subgroup was comprised of 9 patients with cnolestatic hepatitis . The third subgroup was comprised of 10 patients with chronic active hepatitis. All patients were subjected to thorough history [talcing for : exposure to hepatitis patients, lack of bilhar-Izial infection, drug intake or exposure to hepatotoxins. Clinical examination for manifestations of hepatocellular failure, size and consistency of the liver, splenic enlarge¬ment, ascites, oedema, presence of portal hypertension and/or dilated veins on the abdomen. Investigations were done for all patients and controls including E.C.G., urineoc stool examination to exclude active bilharzial infection, blood picture, serum proteins, liver ”unction tests, serum electrolytes, blood urea and serum creatinine levels.
