Abstract
The material of this study consisted of 52 patients with hepatosplenic bilharziasis, 41 were males and 11 wer females with age ranging from 20 to 65 years. Thirty patients presented with active variceal bleeding while 22 patients were non bleeder hese patients were classified into the following groups: group 1: Comprised 22 patients with hepatosplenic bilharziasis, 7 were females and 15 were males with age ranging from 24 to 60 years, splenomegaly was found in all patie¬nts hepatomegaly in J patients and s~unken liver in 19 patients. Ascites was encountered in 7 patients while 15 patients were non ascitic. group II: Included 20 patients, 2 were females and 18 were males with age ranging from 22 to 65 years. All these patients suffered from active variceal bleeding, the live, was shrunken in 17 patients, while it was enlarged in J patients, spleen was enlarged in 19 patients while splenectomy was done in one patient.
