Abstract

The literature has described a multitude of effects and relationships between chronic liver disease and the musculoskeletal system. Chronic active hepatitis has taken a major prt in this respect. The idiopathic autoimmune type of CAH was speciallY mentioned to influence bones and joints in such a way that its impact on musculoskeletal system seemed to be well¬documented and understood. It has been noticed, however, that some cases of CAH due to HBV and HCV exhibit also some bone and joint manifestations. In this study, we aimed to shade lights on a proposed relationship between CAH due to HBV and HCV in one part, and bone and joints in the other part, and to elicit and expose the nature of this relationship as well as the nature of those bone and joint manifestations. The present study comprised twenty patients with CAH diagnosed histopathologically and ten healthy subjects as a control group with age ranging from 35 to 55 years. The twenty patients were classified into two, serologically, diagrosed groups: ten patients with HBV & ten patients with HCV. Then a precise general, abdominal and musculoskeletal examination was performed.
