Abstract The present study was done on 500 diabetics attending the Diabetes and Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic in Mansoura University Hospital. They included 230 males and 270 females. The age of the cases ranged between 23 and 75 years with a mean age of 49+ 18.4 years. they were mostly type II (NIDDM) 483 cases, while type I (IDDM) constituded only 17 cases. All the cases were subjected to: good history taking, with stress on age, sex, occupation, smoking habbit, age of onset and duration of D.M., type of treatment received before the appearance of foot lesions and clinical presentation, with stress on symptoms of neuropathic and ischaemic foot problems. The selected cases with foot problems were subjected to intensive investigations, including: resting ECG, Doppler examination, creatinine concentration, level of glycosylated Hb, RB9, X-ray leg and foot and cutlure and antibiotic sensitivity tests. The aim of this work is to estimate the prevalence of diabetic foot problems among diabetics attending the diabetes and Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic in Mansoura University Hospital and to identify the predisposing factors and their relation to patient’s life-style.
